What We Do
The mission of each Children's Dyslexia Center has three components:
Educator
Certification
Train tutors in the art, science and practice of tutoring children using the Orton-Gillingham approach to multisensory teaching of reading, spelling and writing;
Student Education
& Support
Provide the highest quality, state-of the art, multisensory tutorial reading and written language instruction to children with dyslexia;
Scientific
Research
Advance the body of scientific knowledge of dyslexia through support of clinical research, to improve today’s standards and tomorrow’s care.
Help For Our Children
Since the early 1990s, the Children's Dyslexia Centers has been providing intensive intervention to children with dyslexia.
The Structure Of Our Program
Our clinical program operates independently from public and private school systems. We support children from diverse backgrounds. The children benefit from one-on-one tutoring twice a week, this fosters growth in reading, writing, and self-esteem. Children typically attend our program for two years. This method allows us to address each child’s literacy needs. Our instruction often improves the child’s self-confidence and interest in learning.
Built on the Science of Reading
Our instruction applies the latest scientific research in the science of reading and dyslexia intervention. Our program is designed to help children with the characteristics of dyslexia. Since we do not evaluate children, we require a psychoeducational evaluation for admission to our program.
Our Specialized Approach To Tutoring
The admission application and the psychoeducational evaluation help us determine if our reasoning-based approach would be appropriate for the child. Our professional staff are specifically trained to work with children with dyslexia. They are only qualified to provide instruction for this type of learning difficulty.

Instructional Approach
The Children’s Dyslexia Centers applies a science of reading-based, structured language approach to teach literacy. Instruction is direct, systematic, cumulative, diagnostic and prescriptive. Concepts are introduced using multimodal techniques. Children are taught to analyze words using synthetic and analytic strategies.
Structured Literacy and the Orton-Gillingham Approach
The Children’s Dyslexia Centers’ graduate-level courses are accredited at the Teaching, Instructor of Teaching, Therapy, and Instructor of Therapy levels by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC©). School teachers and other qualified individuals with a Bachelor’s degree can receive training and professional development to become certified
Outreach & Research
Our Centers serve as trusted resources within their communities, providing outreach on dyslexia, our intervention methods, and the training of qualified instructors. We also maintain a centralized database to monitor individual student progress and track overall outcomes, contributing to ongoing research efforts.
